Family forced to drive to bank at gunpoint during CT robbery

Hartford Courant

Police are investigating after a family was forced at gunpoint to drive to a bank and withdraw money during a robbery in Danbury on Sunday evening, police said.

Officers were called at about 5:30 p.m. to the area of Newtown Road on the report of a robbery and kidnapping where they found a family that said they had just been robbed, according to the Danbury Police Department.

The family said they were in their vehicle in the parking lot of Stop & Shop when a man with a handgun approached them and demanded they unlock the vehicle’s doors, police said. The suspect then reportedly got into the vehicle and instructed the driver to head to a bank on Main Street where he demanded $500 be withdrawn, according to police.

The suspect reportedly told the driver to take him back to Newtown Street following the withdrawal. He left the area after reportedly stealing an iPhone from one of the victims, police said.
