One charged in ATM skimming investigation in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS — One person has been charged after bank officials found a skimming device at a Cedar Falls ATM in November.

Police arrested 37-year-old Vasile Cristei, address unavailable, Friday on one count each of illegal use of a scanning device and malicious prosecution. Bond was set at $15,000.

According to court records, the manager at Collins Community Credit Union on Winterberry Drive called police after noticing a person placing a skimming device on the drive-up ATM on Nov. 16. The suspect also placed a small camera on the awning over the ATM.
