KT Corporation, South Korea's second-largest telecom operator, reportedly announced Thursday that personal data of more than 5,500 customers may have been compromised following a mobile payment breach caused by an illegal and unregistered micro basestation that connected to its network.
Since August 27, the operator has received reports of unauthorized mobile transactions from customers in southwestern Seoul and Gwangmyeong, a city in the nearby Gyeonggi Province. Most of these transactions occurred in the early morning hours.
