Five Health Care Vendor Breaches Affected Nearly 36 Million: Steps to Freeze Credit and Spot Medical Identity Theft

Medical Daily

Five health care technology vendors have reported breaches that each affected more than 1 million people, with combined reported totals of nearly 36 million, according to a Becker's Hospital Review tally published Oct. 14. Most of the intrusions happened in 2025, but their full scope was disclosed this year. The companies handle electronic health records, data storage, AI tools, and medical billing, so many affected patients never dealt with them directly.

A breach notice in your mailbox does not mean your identity has been stolen. It does mean your Social Security number, insurance details, or medical information may be in the wrong hands. A few early steps, especially a credit freeze and a careful review of insurance statements, can limit the damage if someone tries to misuse that information.
