Suspects Opening Savings Account with Fraudulent Checks

Wisconsin

FRPA received the following alert:

Three female suspects and a male accomplice are believed to be working together. Their photos are below.

Their MO is to open savings accounts with between $5 and $100 cash. They return a day or two after that and deposit a check from an in-home health care provider. They return a day or two later, cash additional checks, and withdraw funds from the first check.

Their Georgia drivers' licenses are bogus, and the checks are also bogus, but the health care providers are sometimes legitimate. The checks are typically on Chase or BMO Harris accounts, and they have been targeting smaller banks as victims.

So far, there are three females and a male involved. They are driving a dark grey Jeep Grand Cherokee with what appears to be an empty rear license plate holder and possibly a temp tag in the top left corner of the rear window.

These subjects have been to banks in Johnson Creek, McFarland, Stoughton, Oregon, Middleton, Sun Prairie, Waunakee, Fort Atkinson, and Elk Horn. Today, one suspect has been to Waunakee, Sauk City, Middleton, Cross Plains, and Black Earth.

It appears they are heading west of Madison... Western WI, Eastern MN, North Eastern IA...

Please make your staff aware of these subjects.

The information in this alert is available as a pdf to share with staff. Click here.

If they enter your FI,  be aware of this potential activity, be careful, and do your authentication before opening accounts or cashing checks after a new account opening.  If you have information or have contact with the group, you can contact me for more information. I've shared my information below.

One male is recruiting females through dating apps to open and cash checks.  The IDs are good enough to fool FIs.  They do not match up to the real person.
