Downtown Sioux City bank robbed

Sioux City Iowa

SIOUX CITY -- Sioux City police are searching for a suspect who robbed a downtown bank Tuesday morning.

Police were dispatched to a report of a bank robbery at 9:53 a.m. at Great Southern Bank, 329 Pierce St.

Community Policing Sgt. Tom Gill said police are not yet releasing a description of the suspect. He did not say if a weapon was involved or how much cash the suspect may have left with. The suspect was last seen on foot.

Gill said it's not believed neighboring businesses are in danger.

At the scene, Sioux City Police vehicles were parked on the streets adjacent to the bank, and investigators could be seen inside speaking with bank workers. Numerous police vehicles were seen driving on neighboring streets, and officers were walking on nearby streets, stopping to check inside a couple roll-off trash containers at a construction site across the street from the bank.
