Bank robbery suspects tied to Michigan heist

The Elkhart Truth

ELKHART — Details about a bank robbery in downtown Elkhart were revealed Monday after bail was set for two subjects arrested in the case Thursday just hours after the incident.

Melvin Levy, 43, and Tyrone Hunt, 61, are charged with robbery as a Level 5 felony and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement. They were each booked in the Elkhart County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bond.

According to court documents:

Officers responded to Fifth Third Bank at 400 N. Main St. for a robbery report at around 9:37 a.m. Thursday. The suspects were described as wearing masks, gloves and sunglasses to hide their identities, but also orange and yellow high-visibility construction vests, according to police.

Employees said one of the suspects grabbed a manager and an employee by the arm to pull them out of their offices and escort them to the teller counter. Employees were ordered to place the money from two drawers into a multi-colored backpack, according to police.
